It’s nearly 10 years since most of us were celebrating the weekend inside Sankeys Soap. The club had been previously closed closed down with rumours to never re-open and was eventually resurrected by two local promoters in the guise of Sacha Lord and David Vincent.

After a period of time Saturdays at the club were all about the Redlight having made it’s transition from Golden. The change in music policy brought in new residents and a different direction for the party. With that Manchester debuts were made, headlines created and favourites from the Bugged Out era made their welcome return.

The Redlight ran successfully for several years upon till the club underwent refurbishment in 2006. Again the club changed direction musically and it would have been almost impossible for the Redlight to return.

Several re-union type events were staged with missing original residents how ever they failed to capture the magic and atmosphere created at the beginning of the decade.

Several nights were recorded during 2001 and 2005 by myself or (Matthew) Krysko how ever none have ever really surfaced online till now. Here’s an introduction to some of the music that was played on a Saturday when the likes of G-Swing and Classic ruled and it was all about having the best time ever.

Enjoy.

In amongst a room full of records there’s an area dedicated to 7s that I’ve collected over the years which have been handcrafted into the mix available below. The inspiration for the selections stem from lazy Sunday afternoons listening to my dad play his weekend purchases. He was a regular at most of the North West and beyond Northern Soul haunts through out the 70s. During that time he amassed a collection of records which he eventually sold to a local DJ in the mid 1980s. Some of the first sevens I bought were from the record fair that used to frequent the Parr Hall in Warrington along with finds on Warrington market. In the early 90s I helped out at Hottwaxx Records in Warrington where purveyors Barry May and Kevin Edwards
educated me by sharing records that at the time I hoped to own one day! That said my knowledge is limited and these days I spend more time and money looking for disco records in dusty basements or charidee shops. This mix showcases some of my favourites that I’ve bought over the years.

<itunes:summary>In amongst a room full of records there's an area dedicated to 7s that I've collected over the years which have been handcrafted into the mix available below.
This mix showcases some of my favourites that I've bought over the years.

The Shakers - One Wonderful Moment
The Mylestones - Sexy Lady
Rosco Robinson - That's Enough
Wayne Gibson - Under My Thumb
Major Lance - Right Track
Church St. Gang - Just Ask Me
The Javellis featuring Nosmo King - Goodbye Nothin to Say
Isley Brothers - Tell Me It's Just a Rumour Baby
Jay and the Techniques - Contact
Tony Clarke - Landslide
The Bandwagon - Breaking Down the Walls of Heartache
Chuck Wood - Seven Days too Long
Electric Indian - Land of 1000 Dances
Mitch Rider and the Detroit Wheels - You Get your Kicks
The Impressions - Can't Satisfy
Donnie Elbert - Love is Here and Now you're Gone

It’s mixed not mixed with some end to end blends and plenty pop, hiss and crackle from the vinyl. All played in full as they were intended to be heard.

It was enjoyable to make especially hearing records in full and recording tracks that might not always make a mix when compiling one.

Enjoy and I’m already looking forward to making Volume 2.

Our good friends at LOOSE have put together an ‘exclusive special disco mix’ for us to share with you all. It features some exclusive edits and reworks from the chaps themselves with a track listing that is sure to get even the more frigid disco head nice and wet. LOOSE are a well established party down in Laaandan Town who can be usually found thumping their sound out around various boozers and basements such as Platinum, The Star Of Bethnal Green, East Village and Alhambra on a monthly basis.

Over the years they have put on a healthy serving of deliciously tasty special guests such as: Justus Kohncke, Peter Visti, David James, Dan Kinasz, Aeroplane, Severino, Namedrop & Benoit, Dan Hill, Tom Mangan, Frank Tope, Sound Stream, Pete Herbert, Maelstrom, Greg Wilson, Maurice Fulton, Phoreski, The Cosmic Truth, Moustache Mamas, Joakim, Simon Rigg, Ajello, Gavin Herlihy, Phil Mison, Jimpster, Palmskin, Richard Sen and Future Beat Alliance to name just a few!!! One thing’s for sure, these guys definitely know how to throw a party!

If you’re in London at the end of the month, LOOSE have the incredible Ray Mang [Eskimo / Mangled / Bear Funk] playing at their next party which is sure set to be a belter. It’s all happening on the 27th Feb at The Star Of Bethnal Green, 359 Bethnal Green Rd, London, E2 6LG. Check their website for more info http://www.myspace.com/loosekids

Enjoy the mix!

Hailing from Warrington, Peter grew up through the tail end of acid house on a diet of 808 state show mix-tapes and pie sandwiches. He now resides down south in the the big smoke where he can be found playing records anywhere from east-end boozers, strip bars, kebab shop basements to Dalston warehouses.

This live mix of brilliant cut 70s, 80s & 90s mutoid electro disco inflected gems promises to be the start of a lengthy volume of genre spanning mixes. Enjoy.

It’s nearly the end of the month and time for some new music.

That said this new mix is not so new. It’s remained confined to my Macbook since Summer 2005 and I’ve been meaning to share it for some time on the website or over at Cosmic Disco. It provided the soundtrack to dinner last night where Wes joined me and I gave him a crash course in colouring in Cutlooseclub. I ‘superlaxed’ his food as well. He’s claiming it’s my cooking though anyone who knows me will vouch I’m a wizard in the kitchen as well as on the turntables.

There’s music from Gaz Nedada, Sylvi Foster, Heaven 17 and The The plus more. These were some of the records I was playing in the Soap Bar earlier in the evening during my Sankeys residency.

I’ll post a full track listing over the next few days. Meantime download the music or subscribe to our iTunes feed and listen to it there or on your music player of choice.

Look out for a brand new mix from Wes himself next week. That’s if he ever manages to leave the bathroom.
