There’s a great new Morgan Geist mix over on the We Make It Good Website. Here’s what they’ve got to say about it.

Morgan Geist – of Metro Area / Environ / Unclassics fame – dug deep into the recesses of what must be a record collection the size of a mountain to weave together this dustily beautified journey through abandoned early 80s NY. Geist’s selection of late 70s / early 80s electronic tracks exquisitely captures a moment in time when the prevailing disco sheen hanging hazily over the city was being overtaken by the throbbing pulse of murder, drugs, and dirt that ran a heavy current underneath. All in all it’s a mix that captures a certain brand of austere beauty. If that all sounds a little too ‘grown’, we’re almost 100% positive that Mr. Geist threw in some chopped and screwed Arthur Russell for the new jacks towards the very end.

You can go download the mix from their website.

Enjoy.

Ten tip top records getting the majority of my attention this month.

Cameo – It’s Serious [Chocolate City]

New York’s Larry Blackmon & Co do the business with this funked up disco number from way back in…wait for it…1977. That bass line!

Jamie Hodge – Jazzy Disco Track [Rush Hour]

Very tasty 3 track EP picked from from Daniel’s Waaaaaang’s private vault. All tracks are previously unreleased but its the Jazzy Disco Track doing it for me, although ‘On The Moon’ is equally as good.

Trilogy – Latin Love [Prism]

Superb Disco/Electro vibes from the untouchable Prism Records back in 1987. Check the Dub.

The Congos – Congoman Chant [Glimmer Records]

Since its initial release in Jamaica in 1977, the Congos’ debut album Heart Of The Congos has never diminished in popularity. Perfect for these late summer evenings as the sun goes down.

Casino Boy – Serious [Jisco Music]

Recent EP from the Jisco Music chaps. ‘Serious’ being my pick of the bunch.

Plastic Mode – Baja Imperial [Discomagic]

Not to proud to admit I missed this first time round, super chuffed its been pressed up again.

Floyd Beck – Party Is The Solution [Epic records]

Quality 80′ tackle on Epic records. Heard an edit of this not so long ago but the original still works.

City People / 20 Below – It’s All In The Groove [Rainy City]

Rainy City Music was formed in Manchester during the summer of 1996 by brothers Irfan & Iftikhar Hussain and Cyril Lyons. Just cant get enough of this at the moment, slow it down and it has that gritty early slo-mo house vibe all over it.

Tensnake – Holding Back (My Love) [Running Back]

Most excellent recent release on the excellent Running Back label straight out of Germany.

Inverto – Time To Jack/ Lean To (brennan Green Mix) [M-Division]

Described as ‘Balearic mid-tempo twinkle-house’. Dont know about that but all the tracks on here caught my attention, although the saturated epic rework by disco maestro Brennan Green stole the show. Rumour has it Brennan might be coming to Manchester very soon…

Those sound guys at Resident Advisor came down to check out Motor City Drum Ensemble. We’ve printed the review in full below or you can go read on the Resident Advisor website.

Recent releases from Danilo Plessow, AKA Motor City Drum Ensemble, have come on both his own Raw Cuts imprint and respected old hats alike. His 2020 and Four Roses offerings are a refreshing master class in analogue sounding, heads down, driving intoxication. These, combined with the Resident Advisor podcast available late last year, have given me with a gratifyingly soul-infused impression of the Stuttgart born 24-year old and left me salivating at the thought of the recent Cutloose night.

My enthusiasm was temporarily crippled as disappointing news of severe cold and financial flu-stricken friends found its way to me. Ever the optimist, I rallied a loose rabble of friends, some of whom were still recoiling from the night before, and took to the mean streets of Manchester shortly after 11:00 PM.

The number of excitable punters rose steadily after our arrival, culminating in a respectable showing by the midnight hour. The crowd on a Cutloose night appears to have a communal urge for locked groove rioting and the enjoyment that such chaos invariably incurs. Their ungraceful yet enviable approach to a Friday night is something to behold as a cross section of the city’s well versed house enthusiasts embraces faces new. It would be unfair to mention other nights in this review but the work being done to revive the once unshakeable Manchester scene should be applauded and embraced.

I was unable to name the residents on show, partly due to my wavering grip on reality, brought on by a seductive cocktail that I engulfed shortly before heading out. One name does stand out though: Mark Webster, a former Sankeys resident. In conjunction with my first visit to the monthly musical romp, the early sounds excited and enticed. The Cutloose signature, to me, is an unpretentious one that reminds me of back room parties far superior to their main room rivals, as I’m sure I’ve said before.

The next three hours were steered by Plessow who played undisputed classics such as Inner City’s “Big Fun,” Kerri Chandler and many more, which are now lost in a tangled web of heart warming memories. His track selection was far reaching taking in lesser known rarities such as the Richie Hawtin’s remix of “Motor Bass Get Phunked Up,” straight from the vaults of 1994. Home brewed MCDE productions caused the greatest stir, which is unsurprising when you hear how each of them takes on a new life when thundered out of a bass heavy system. Unrelentingly, he marched on and finished with Carl Craig’s remix of “Tides” and sly bass shuffling, elbow-raising black slabs.

A captivating atmosphere clung to the night like the floor did to my shoes. The sound system at times almost tore my eardrums apart, which may be down to it being tuned for live acts as opposed to DJs. But as the highs dropped and basslines rolled, the good times kept on coming. An invigorating night on all accounts, anyone that hasn’t yet experienced a Cutloose of their own should make sure they make it down next month.

Words – Ben Thomson

‘Cant Live Without Your Love’ was released back in 1979 on Polydor Records and was co produced by the incredible Randy Muller (of Brass Construction). This for me is one of those records that just ups the tempo of any party, the intro just blows up and launches the track into a rapacious disco groove keeping our Bab’s vocals prominent throughout. Ace record.

Well, if this doesn’t get your feet moving on this delightful Friday afternoon then I don’t know what will, this overlooked disco number gets heavy, frequent rotation on my turntables to say the least. Komiko is a collaboration between Daryl Payne whose name you will probably recognise as he co produced the huge disco smash ‘’Beat The Street’’ with Sharon Redd. Feel Alright was the only release under the Komiko disguise which was released straight out of New York City on the quality SAM Records in 1982. Sam Weiss [Sept 1926 – March 2008], owner of SAM Records had a love for all things Hip Hop to Rap to Doo Wap but had a huge passion for Disco and so he delivered us a huge catalogue of splendid disco records spanning from way back in 1976 to the early nineties. Anyway…enough waffle from me…get yourself on this little belter!

Straight out of Germany, the long awaited First Touch debut longplayer is finally here. During a creative period of almost two years and several unexpected breaks and ups and downs, the two band members nanthara and jelly put all strength together and selected ten fine boogie tunes to please your thirst for authentic true 80′s funk’n'disco grooves. Officially released on the 28th Feb 2009 on their own homebase label Highsteppin records.

The tunes were completely mastered by Reeno at spazzoid studios nyc. The group’s first release got a great approach that hints at more sophisticated soul styles, but which is still firmly in charge of those bass-driven grooves that made the late 70ies disco, early 80ies funk years so fascinating to funkheads all around the world. Originality is the ruler of the set, and most tracks here vamp around in a very smooth modern soul style of groove. Lots of chord progressions jumping around irresistible rhythms, a reduced but effective ensemble arrangement style, and not to mention an armada of synthesizers help keep things clean and mean.

From the smooth midtempo tune ‘all because of you’ to the more uplifting gem ‘it’s yours’, you can’t help but smile. Groove & move to the debut lp from this Germany/Mannheim based funk group, delivering a long lost goodtimesfeel along with the side-dishes of boogie and modern soul. Read about the guys involved and download the complete album for free here, what do you say…

What can I say…Claremont 56 have come up trumps with another blinding limited edition compilation in the Originals series. Following on from where Manchester’s very own Balearic Mike & Moonboots left us, Cult Leftfield Disco DJ Mark Seven lays down a sterling selection chuggy grooves and obscure disco nuggets for our listening pleasure.

Mark Seven, passionate music lover and proprietor of the superb www.juswax.com, is no stranger to good quality underground music. His involvement goes back to the early 80′s where he organised all night parties and illegal raves all over London. He now resides in Stockholm, Sweden where he runs his own record shop Juswax on a daily basis yet taking regular time out to travel the globe in search of stock for the shop and obviously those extra special picks for his own record bag.

Mark played for us back in December when we threw that much talked about ‘free’ Christmas party with our good friends over at Cosmic Disco. Mark is one of the most exciting Dj’s we have had the pleasure of down at Cutloose and if you were down at Bookbinders that night you would no doubt agree with me, his record selection and ability to so many genres of music together are incredible, whilst always keeping everyone locked to the dance floor. You can view the pictures here.

His real strength is his ability to go out and dig for those special records and while most people will just be happy compiling tracks from other peoples play lists or buying the regulation well known classics, Mark is listening through piles and piles of records from the most unlikely sources in search for that next little gem. Buy the CD and you can enjoy 12 of them in the comfort of your own home, there are only 1000 so be quick. Out now on Claremont 56 Records…

Resident Advisor visited our debut party at the Roadhouse where we’d flown in Soundstream. We’ve printed the review in full below or you can go read on the Resident Advisor website.

Three empty tequila shot glasses lay stricken across the Roadhouse bar. In front of them are three reprobates recoiling in horror. It seemed the only fitting way to bring our first Cutloose romp to a close.

It all began when my friends and I arrived at the club entrance, far from fresh faced, just after opening. I’d never been to the dark chamber before, but I had heard good reports. As expected, the venue was encased within a single room. It held what I would guess to be around 200 people and offered no sanctuary within its bowels for any weary traveller. Draped velvet separated the bar from the dance floor chaos whilst a few scattered tables and chairs littered the unpopulated outskirts.

Cutloose began its life at Dave Vincent’s wretched Spektrum. The opening night heralded the infamous Theo Parrish whilst others showcased the cream of the underground house, disco and funk community. I don’t know the intricate details of the decision to move to the Roadhouse, but the news was met with rapturous applause in my household.

The walls that contained the night were but a small piece of the succulent metaphorical pie on offer. Each resident, although at no point did I know which one was on, elevated the party into full swing. 4/4 rhythms were juxtaposed with off beat modern day soul and disco classics. Genres were tossed aside and cosmic fever let loose by skilful and well-schooled hands.

Soundstream, a one man groove machine hailing from Berlin, took charge at 1 AM. Others may know him as Soundhack or Smith and Hack, or even by the key role that he’s played in the Hard Wax phenomenon. But on this night he was most definitely Soundstream, spiralling the atmosphere out of control with his own feverish productions like “Dance With Me” and “3rd Movement.” At its peak Soundstream’s set was amongst the best I’ve ever seen: His ability to manipulate songs of varying tempos and moods comes with an almost unattainable knowledge of music and how it causes people to react.

The whole ordeal, to be honest, left me mesmerised. The night followed no pre-defined formulas and impregnated me with its sleazy seed. Having hammered out their own niche in the Manchester underground scene with solid bookings like the forthcoming Motor City Drum Ensemble, it’s no surprise that Cutloose relentlessly draws sell-out crowds.

This record absolutely blew me away the first time I heard it. A collaboration between Larry Heard and Joe R Lewis, one of Chicago’s most talented, underrated and most inspiring operators. Joe’s career kick started almost 20 years ago down at his local ice skating rink where he organised packed to capacity parties every Friday and Saturday. Loop Machine was the name of the party and DJ’s such as Frankie Knuckles and Farley ‘Jackmaster’ Funk were frequently on the bill. Off the back of the Loop Machine Joe then opened his own club which he christened The Jungle club. It was here he struck up a close relationship with Larry Heard who was a regular down at the venue.

The Love Of My Own was Joe’s first release, put out on the newly formed Target Records in 1987…rare as as hens teeth it is too. I picked up a copy in Berlin a couple of years ago at a hefty price and then sod’s law it recently got bootlegged and re released, so if you delve deep enough you should be able to grab yourself an unofficial slab of this superior black stuff. Following this Joe went on to release a further 2 EP’s on Target Records which are also like gold dust, if you can find one you’ll be paying top whack I promise you. Whilst talking hard to finds, look up a track called Midnight Dancin’, this also came out on Target records in 1990 and was another collaboration between Joe and a guy called Darryl Godlett under the disguise Survival, this record went on to become one of the most recognised Chicago anthems of all time.

Anyway…Joe R Lewis – The Love Of My Own…enjoy.

Was digging through my records last night and just had to feature this little belter as not heard it for a while now.

Davina is a female vocalist / musician from Detroit who in her early days ran her own record label, she was also the an house recording engineer, talented lady no doubt. After hooking up with Mike Banks amongst a string of other Detroit cats of that era Davina continued to put out some mighty fine records throughout the early nineties. She was then signed up for the impeccable Loud Records in 1996 as an artist in her own right.

New school Detroit techno mainstay “Mad” Mike Banks is actually the guy behind this Detroit classic which is a firm favourite with many Detroit Techno head. Banks (a founding member of Underground Resistance) throws together the awesome sounds of the timeless Roland 808 drum machine and fuses those incredible electronic synth stab lines with an elegant piano loop over the top. Add Davina and those amazing warm sultry vocals to complement and you have, as the infamous Barnet Sheildhouse once said, “Scchexy Techno at its best”.

Gwen Guthrie needs no introduction really, with a string of classic disco bombs under her belt such as Seventh Heaven, Peanut Butter and of course the infectious Aint Nothin’ Goin’ On But The Rent, she will always be remembered as one of the finest ladies in Disco. Gwen started her career in the music industry back in 1974 performing backing vocals for the likes of the phenomenal Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin and Billy Joel to name just a few.

Gwen was also a very talented songwriter and musician who went on to write and produce songs made famous by artists such as Roberta Flack and Ben E King. All the above tracks were famously remixed and produced by Paradise Garage maestro Larry Levan and as her close working relationship with Larry developed throughout the eighties and early nineties, Gwen actually became dubbed as the ‘First lady of the Paradise Garage’ as most of her tracks became huge anthems there.

‘It Should Have Been You’ was Gwen’s first 12” that came out on Island Records back in 1982, it was produced and arranged by Sly Dunbar & Robbie Shakespear who were renowned for there dub influenced club cuts around that time. The track was in fact taken from her debut album ‘Gwen Guthrie’ of which Sly and Robbie were also heavily involved. It was after this album that Gwen hooked up with Larry Levan but for me this is one of her best moments regardless. Just listen when the track goes solo at around the 4 minute mark…

Derrick ‘The Dinosaur’ May recalls Aril’s demo landing in the post of which he quickly snapped up for his own record label ‘Fragile’. The ‘Art Of Vengeance EP’ was Aril’s first release and featured this amazing track ‘Groove La Chord’. The record literally blew up all over the world with DJ’s right across the board jumping all over it. It was a huge favourite at the famous Body & Soul parties in NYC which were hosted by the highly respected Danny Krivit, Francois K and Joe Claussel. I remember hearing Derrick May play this in Liverpool a couple of years back and he was juggling two copies at the same time and he had the place going crazy.

Anyway, Aril went on to produce a string of hits on labels such as Peacefrog, Kompakt and Transmat. When he’s not in the studio Aril can be found playing at some of the finest parties across the globe with regular appearances at The Detroit Music Festival which of course happens every year at the back end of May. Apparently his much talked about live sets at the DEMF are phenomenal. Just like walking on Blancmange I imagine.

Theodore Parrish needs no introduction and indubitably sits firmly as my all time most admired DJ and Producer. Heal Yourself And Move is one of the nine belters taken from Theo’s first album ironically titled First Floor, released back in October 1998. The opening synth soaked vibes descend quickly into a deep, sublime, Detroit-infused 11 minute epic. A typical Theo Parrish slow burner that makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up whenever I hear it, get this thumping out of a big system and you can’t help but get involved.

When Theo played for us back in September we were talking about this record and he was saying it was one of his favourite tracks from over the years. He also went on to say that it was the first record where he recorded the vocals as himself, that’s right; those sultry deep spoken words are actually the main man Parrish on the mic!!

If you don’t already own this album, buy it now and listen to it in full CD Stereo quality for full effect. Turn it up.

With regards to background information, unfortunately there is not a lot to write about this track as the sleeve doesn’t give much away. I’ve searched high and low for some details on Kym but not even the mighty discogs.com can help me out on this one. There seems to be just the one track ever produced under the disguise Kym, but if you are going to release just the one record then this is a mighty fine example of how to do it. Give Me The Dance has that quality early New York, electro disco sort of vibe and is quite hard to come by and when you do it can be quite pricey! Oh…and it comes on fancy clear/transparent vinyl with fantastic artwork. Niiiice.

Help Is On The Way is a quality piece of jazz funk that was released on the superb Harlem International Records way back in 1981 when I was just the plump old age of two. The band is the Whatnauts, a trio of singers from Baltimore in the U.S.A who don’t have a massive discography which explains why some of their music is a little hard to come by. This absolute bomb has one of the most insatiable bass lines that your ears will ever have the pleasure, check the Instrumental for full effect and soak it up.

If your thinking you’ve heard that bass line before, well it was also pinched and put to great use by the probably more familiar Fat Larry’s Band in their smash hit Act Like You Know, which was released approximately about a year later. Have to mention that Help Is On The Way was mixed by the sadly lost, but not forgotten Tee Scott. Tee Scott was making records for the likes of Larry Levan, Frankie Knuckles pre The Garage, Music Box etc. His DJ sets down at the Zanzi Bar in New Jersey were described as some what legendary, his productions are timeless classics and Help Is On The Way is no exception.

Anyway…just wait for the break at around the 3 minutes 55 seconds mark…ouch!!!

Ten tip top rekids floating my boat this month

Runaway- Alberg 30 [Chinatown]

Ace, deep head nodding material from these chaps from N.Y.C. One half of the duo (Jacques Renault) is playing El Diablo’s on Sat 7th February. Not to be missed.

Finchley Road – Infectious [Quark Records]

A belter I picked up recently on a trip to New York. The dub on this is just as the title says, late eighties house music (1987) which is just layered full of those classic 808 drums and signature claps with James Bratton jamming on the keys over the top. Spot on.

Phoreski – Lonely Man [Bare Fist Recordings]

Vol 2 in the series and just 300 in the world apparently, Bring on the Summer, this is Balearic nonsense at its best.

Geraldine Hunt – Heart Heart [Prism]

Geraldine’s first ever single before the prodigious ‘Cant Fake The Feeling’. Pressed up back in 1981, it just grooves along with simplicity but keeps that funk and had Jenko’s body moving like you’ve never seen.

Mike Burns – Everybody’s Mantra / Disco Child [Disco Devil]

Both sides are absolute belters on this fresh disco play. Everybody’s Mantra is a nice little plodder that just builds nicely, perfect for early doors. Disco Child is a uplifting disco screamer with some oriental bird giving it some welly over the top.

Nightlife Unlimited – Peaches And Prunes [Uniwave Records]

Everybody knows the classic Ron Hardy / Automan re-edit of this but the original just never wears thin with me. Theo Parrish screwed this when he played for us back in September….’Its Magic’

6th Borough District – Nights Over Memphis (Revenge Dub) [Instruments Of Rapture]

Nice little 3 Track EP but just the one track standing out for me. Great little slow burner on a lazy Detroit sort of vibe with a catchy looped up vocal.

Mystic Slot : Adjustments By Mystic Slot [Black Cock records]

Missed this first time round, Dj Harvey on the job. Both sides are spot on as expected and is probably the best of the famous Black Cock Edits. There are a few replicas knocking around at present if you look hard enough. With originals going for £300 quid on eBay, grab one quick.

Patrick Cowley – Get A Little [Megatone Records]

This was featured on the Derrick Carter : Choice Collection of Classics although the vinyl sampler that they released at the time had a slightly shorter edit so I had been keeping my eyes peeled for the full extended version for quite a while now. $15 dollars from Academy Records in N.Y.C. Sound like.

Moodymann – Detroit ‘ 67 [Mahogani Music]

Mini LP from the good man Kenneth Dixon Jnr. Something for everyone on this with 5 fresh cuts. Detroit being my pick, welcome to the idiosyncratic world of Moodymann.

Heads up, we have a little bit of extra special news to announce this week. Metro Area will be our last party for 2008 and so far our line ups have been pretty much as good as they get:

THEO PARRISH (Sound Signature/Detroit)
LOUD E (Ambassadors Reception) & BEPPE LODA (Typhoon Italy)
ROLAND APPEL (Sonar Kollektiv)
METRO AREA (Morgan Geist & Darshan Jesrani, Environ NYC)

Not a bad string of parties over 4 months!

We’ll be back in 2009 after the Christmas break and after much discussion at Cutloose Towers we will be leaving Spektrum behind and going back to what we all like best. Think…intimate basement location below the streets of Manchester where once a month throughout 2009 we will be rolling in our own huge thumping sound system and turning the lights down low for a run out of some of the finest guests we can think of. Theo Parrish will be back in the new year without doubt and we already have the fantastic Sound Stream lined up to play for our first party back in February with more guests to be announced soon.

Spektrum is a fantastic venue though we felt it wasn’t the right platform for the guests and the parities we wanted to put on. We sat back and thought of all the amazing venues around Manchester and the same name kept cropping up, the same venue that always has an incredible atmosphere and a superb mix of people.

As of the Friday 20th February 2009 our new home will be the Roadhouse. We can’t wait!

We hope you can join us on Friday 5th December for our last party at Spektrum. Both Morgan Geist & Darshan Jesrani will be joining us all the way from New York City. Early bird tickets have sold out and the remaining advance tickets are flying out. Get yourself down to Junk in the Northern Quarter for tickets with no booking fee or buy online from Skiddle. Last time these guys were in town it was an absolute road block so don’t hang around.

We’re throwing a FREE festive soiree over the Christmas period with the Cosmic Disco guys on the 27th December with special guest Mark Seven (Juswax/Sweden) – late license until 4am, Cheap Beers, Funktion One Sound System all happening at a secret Manchester basement location, not the Roadhouse or Deaf Institute.

With the Metro Area gig just round the corner and that Friday feeling running through my veins I thought I would it only right I post an absolute stomper today.

Italo Disco, some people still think of it as eighties music with ridiculous cheesy vocals, listened and produced by only north Italian philanderers with huge ego’s and bad hair, basically music that would not survive the eighties.

Amin Peck was George Fyron, Leonard Parker, and Max Marne a group of top dog Italians who had a long string of Italo hits under their belts. This one is for sure still alive and got recently got hammered by Metro Area at this years PS1 in New York.

Its a nice instrumental track with a drenched slap bass and cosmic synth line, pitch it down slightly and it just sounds absolutely incredible on a big system. Anyway, courtesy of YouTube.

Some musical partnerships seem to require a leap of faith or a suspension of our collective disbelief; others progress come along so naturally that the synergy almost seems fated, their work resolutely undeniable. Brooklyn-based Metro Area (Morgan Geist and Darshan Jesrani) is of the latter group without doubt: a beautifully harmonious relationship wherein the duo push and pull in all the right directions without compromise.

Although both listened to pop RnB/electro of the mid 80s growing up in quiet pockets of the East coast (Darshan in Poughkeepsie, New York and Morgan in New Jersey), they independently found themselves drawn to synthesizers and the techy side of producing long before they discovered one another.

As Morgan and Darshan migrated towards equally remote areas of America for college (Darshan staying in the east coast and Morgan relocating to the Midwest) and gradually coaxed releases from the closed confines of their dorms (Morgan even started his label, Environ, in his dorm room), they simultaneously lived their formative years feeling somewhat misunderstood and somewhat misplaced musically.

It’s a sentiment that’s rung true from when they met each other on email lists in the days before internet forums through their early days when the two first teamed up as an avant-garde, creatively unbound production/DJ team.

“It’s a really mixed bag of music, but it’s all really groovy stuff. There’s some not so obvious disco, there’s some sort of really spare and weird NY house tracks – we had to figure out how to make it cohesive. We did a few of our own custom deep tracks and made some little drum tracks and little mixing utilities to throw in there as well… We’re trying to not put in the classic records that we’ve played forever. We wanted to explore an area that’s not mined so heavily, but still have an emphasis on the older disco stuff. So we thought we’d do a mid 80s sort of thing, which is kind of a neglected time period but there’s some really nice records from then. With fabric mix CDs, it can sometimes be so homogenous; it’s like this perfect, classy, very coherent single thought. But that’s not how we DJ, so I think we decided we’d try and touch on a lot of different things, almost like a party mix.” – Metro Area

Fabric 43, an artistically arranged and brightly coloured journey through Metro Area’s vast record collections, remains as reflective as it is forward-thinking. Metro Area deliver a peerless jam-packed mix of Easy Street dance classics (World Premiere’s “Share The Night”) through to 80′s club hits (“Work For Love” by Ministry), with a generous helping of disco and boogie anthems and electropop output from the likes of Premiere Class. Infectious, retro and yet timeless, Fabric 43 dazzles with uplifting dancefloor gold.

This track was the main stimulus behind our Cutloose disguise and without doubt sits firmly as one of our all time favorite Bohannon tracks.

Hamilton Frederick Bohannon grew up in Atlanta where he was quickly snapped up by Stevie Wonder as the lead drummer in his touring band. He eventually moved to Detroit in 1965 and began working for Motown where he became a band leader and producer for many of the labels top acts. Motown finally moved from Detroit in 1972 but Hamilton stayed put and formed his own band leading to a record deal with Brunswick Records where he released his first four LP’s.

He then signed to Mercury Records in 1976 where he had huge success with ‘Lets Start The Dance’ which literally blew up all over the world.

Going back to the record, Cutloose keeps the classic heavy, thudding bass accents and aggressive rhythms which is trademark on any Bohannon record. Here is the whole 7 minutes and 54 seconds courtesy of you tube. Sound.
