Ten tip top records getting the majority of my attention this month.
Cameo – It’s Serious [Chocolate City]
New York’s Larry Blackmon & Co do the business with this funked up disco number from way back in…wait for it…1977. That bass line!
Jamie Hodge – Jazzy Disco Track [Rush Hour]
Very tasty 3 track EP picked from from Daniel’s Waaaaaang’s private vault. All tracks are previously unreleased but its the Jazzy Disco Track doing it for me, although ‘On The Moon’ is equally as good.
Trilogy – Latin Love [Prism]
Superb Disco/Electro vibes from the untouchable Prism Records back in 1987. Check the Dub.
The Congos – Congoman Chant [Glimmer Records]
Since its initial release in Jamaica in 1977, the Congos’ debut album Heart Of The Congos has never diminished in popularity. Perfect for these late summer evenings as the sun goes down.
Casino Boy – Serious [Jisco Music]
Recent EP from the Jisco Music chaps. ‘Serious’ being my pick of the bunch.
Plastic Mode – Baja Imperial [Discomagic]
Not to proud to admit I missed this first time round, super chuffed its been pressed up again.
Floyd Beck – Party Is The Solution [Epic records]
Quality 80′ tackle on Epic records. Heard an edit of this not so long ago but the original still works.
City People / 20 Below – It’s All In The Groove [Rainy City]
Rainy City Music was formed in Manchester during the summer of 1996 by brothers Irfan & Iftikhar Hussain and Cyril Lyons. Just cant get enough of this at the moment, slow it down and it has that gritty early slo-mo house vibe all over it.
Tensnake – Holding Back (My Love) [Running Back]
Most excellent recent release on the excellent Running Back label straight out of Germany.
Inverto – Time To Jack/ Lean To (brennan Green Mix) [M-Division]
Described as ‘Balearic mid-tempo twinkle-house’. Dont know about that but all the tracks on here caught my attention, although the saturated epic rework by disco maestro Brennan Green stole the show. Rumour has it Brennan might be coming to Manchester very soon…
