Party update – Theo Parrish at Spektrum Manchester

Theo Parrish DJing on the turntables

We hope since the launch of the website two weeks ago you have an understanding of what Cutloose is about and what it hopes to represent going forward. As mentioned we hope the diverse range of guests we intend to have playing underpins our philosophy of good music and good parties.

As you are all probably aware we have a Mr. Theodore R Parrish playing in September and we are delighted that he has agreed to play our opening night. Without being over evangelical about Theo; there is something for every music lover ranging from Hamilton Bohannon to the likes of Mike Huckaby and Omar S, notwithstanding his own productions.

Each set is carefully put together like a piece of renaissance art. That alone should be incentive to get Manchester cats down to Cutloose and see Theo at work!

This diverse blend of musical influences is never better shown in Theo’s project Rotating Assembly with house tracks which range from sweet vocals and soulful instrumentals to gritty, repetitive loops. This loose Detroit outfit evolves around 21 people, who exchange talents and energy. All tracks are written and produced and masterminded by Theo, who has given them his (sound) signature sound.

Artists included in the band are: Genevieve (known for vocals with Recloose), Maat Lo (aka Billy Lo), Marcellus Pittman (3 Chairs), Rick Wilhite (3 Chairs), Warren Harris (recorded with Dan Curtin) and Andres. Also newcomers such as Karen Bosco (vocals) John Dougalas (trumpet), King Sunshine & Trent Mitchell (double bass) put in incredible effort to make this release a top Sound Signature title. This variety is never more apparent in the two productions below.

Productions

Jenko's impeccable taste and insatiable appetite for the ultra rare, obscure and down right infectious ensures his sets are a kaleidoscope of quality house, techno, disco, boogie, jazz, funk, soul, Latin, Afro, reggae – always with a firm emphasis on the funk and soul elements – he amalgamates cuts from across the musical stratosphere: Popular People's Front to Lucio Battisti; William de Vaughan to Studio; Gepy & Gepy to Hamilton Bohannon; Theo Parrish to Hydro; Norma Jean Bell to Steel An' Skin. Paul has recently graced the decks and kicked Cutloose parties into gear, laying it down proper and setting the tone for the likes of Loud E, Roland Appel and Metro Area. As well as honing his skills 6 stories high, in what can only be described as Ancoats' answer to Mancuso's Loft, Jenks can also be found quaffing Manchester's finest ales in the Marble Arch and preening his Brylcream laden Joey Boswell bonce, which exudes almost as much volume as the supreme sound emanating from his four Bowers and Wilkins floor stand speakers.
